Facts about different breeds found in Alaska
Alaskan Huskies
- Alaskan Huskies are bred for their performance as sled dogs
- Although they are named, Alaskan Huskies do not have a formal breed standard
- Not having an official standard means that they can look vastly different due to different crossbreeds
- They usually have a lighter build than Alaskan Malamutes but are taller than Siberian Huskies
Samoyeds
- Samoyeds have thick, double-layered coats of fur to protect from cold
- They get their name from the Samoyedic people in Siberia
- Samoyeds were bred for herding, sledding, hunting and protection
- They have a reputation for being very friendly
